Insurance fraud investigations
The increase in insurance fraud (declaration of false claims, false statements to the underwriting, exaggerations, etc.) and the professionalization of these fraudsters, demands from you more responsiveness in the implementation of effective prevention measures, not only with the underwriting of the policies but also and especially with the declaration of the accident. The fraud, can take several forms and be located in all the branches of insurance (house, health, automobile, etc.), as much to the subscription as to the declaration of the claim.
SUBSCRIPTION OF AN INSURANCE POLICY
Many customers at the time of the subscription of their insurance policy make a good figure to persuade you of the lightness of the risks incurred. Among other things, they can conceal a claim already existing at the time of insurance subscription. It is in your interest to guard against any unpleasant surprise by informing you about the real situation of your client, beyond his statements. You have to find out:
• If your client had another insurer before you?
• If so, has there been any dispute (of some sort) with his former insurer?
• What is the actual extent (value) of the risks (goods, activities, etc.) insured?
• What are the real risks?
• What is his real financial situation?
TO THE DECLARATION OF LOSS
The declaration of a disaster is sometimes the place and the moment of exposure of fraud, that has already been prepared in advance. Whether it is in home, health or automobile insurance or others, your customer can be endowed with a fraudulent intention that makes :
• Declarations of false claims (false theft, false accident),
• Declaration of damage not related to the incident,
• Intentional declaration of loss,
• Presentation of false invoices or an exaggeration of the incident etc. The customer’s good faith being a presumption, it is nevertheless up to you to make sure of the veracity of its declarations by calling upon the services of a cabinet of experts which will take care of, carry out an objective and meticulous investigation, in order to bring you lightings.
